PVR or DVR with wifi - is it too much to ask?

Posted on Monday 6 March 2006

I can buy a 200 Gb hard drive for under $150 and a wireless card for about $60, so im quite surprised that I cant buy a PVR (Personal Video Recorder, though I think DVR – Digital Video Recorder is a much more appropriate name) that has both for under, say, $500.? Does this seem weird to anyone else?? Im thinking, because timeshifting is the ‘killer ap’ for me, that I will simply buy a PVR off ebay for roughly $200.? The ones I have seen have a standard definition tuner and an 80 Gb hard drive, which is easily enough for 10-20 hours of recording.? They don’t have wifi of course, which is a shame, in fact they don’t even have an Ethernet connection.

Xbox, a “wireless bridge” and XBMC software goes a long way. Team this with a cheap tuner card on your PC.
