Posted on Thursday 16 February 2006

Im on the look out for project management software, and so i might as well review them as i go along. First one of the rank is dotproject. Below is the criteria i will be using.

General
Need it to be simple to get a snapshot of:
• Time un-allocated for a resource
• Tasks allocated and un-allocated
• Milestones not met
• Tasks overdue
• Projects complete
Resources must be consolidated into one pool that is shared over multiple projects.

2 Programming Team Members

Share knowledge of task status
View allocated tasks.
View dependant tasks.
View timelines of project to see where their tasks fit into the project.
Be notified when tasks have been modified via email and reminders when they are due via calendar.
Must be able to change status of tasks when they are completed.

3 Project Owners

Status of only their projects, including a % complete indicator
Timelines of their projects
Gantt charts of their projects

4 Senior Management/CEO office

Portfolio view at production centre level eg Which projects are each production centre working on? What % of resources are in use?
Costings of projects? Budget information.
