Switch to WordPress from Blogger

Posted on Friday 6 January 2006

It was a change that had been looming for some time, but i was a little concerned about how the implementation would go, so i had held off. However, now that its done its definately worth it.

You may have noticed that the whole look and feel of the site has changed. This is because I have switched from blogging with Blogger to using WordPress.? I had been hearing reports of how good WordPress was and it seems they were correct.

How did I do it?

Well, I downloaded the WordPress software, followed the very simple instructions to upload it and set up the database.? I then used the inbuilt Import from Blogger function to import my 30 or so previous posts.? As im a fan of SEO I ticked the box in the admin system to use friendly URLs.? The final step was to install the Adsense Deluxe Plugin and place the ads on each page and BINGO - it was done.? Total time to convert to WordPress - about one hour.? Thats amazing - thumbs up to WordPress.

What’s next?

Next step will be to find a theme/template that I like (I leave the artistic stuff to the artists) and get the Google Analytics code running across it too.? I’ll let you know how i go.

[…] The answer is – cataclysmic! Huge! Disastrous!? This is of course my own experience.? I changed from Blogger to WordPress on January 6th 2006.? Since then my referrals from Google for a whole range of keywords has plummeted.? On Thursday the 19th January for example I received 0 referrals from google.? That’s right, its not a typo, zero referrals from google.? This could of course kill a lesser site!? Fortunately I am still receiving a whole host of referrals from a number of other sites (thanks Open Source CMS) and from people bookmarking the site. ? […]
