Good Aussie stuff with Google APIs

Posted on Monday 21 November 2005

Thanks to Martin English for sending me the work he has done using the Google Maps APIs. If you go to http://www.martin-english.com/maps you will see that he has overlayed a google map of New South Wales and Victoria with up to date temperatures from the Bureau of Meterology for many larger towns and citys in the region. James McArdle has used Google Maps APIs to create a pretty useful tool at AussiePlaces.com where you can type in your postcode and select a number of different services/landmarks. Its very useful, but needs some work still.
These sorts of applications using google’s APIs are rife in the USA, but because most roads and towns etc in Australia are yet to be available using google maps they haven’t taken off here yet. There is a huge list of ‘google map hacks’ available from Google Maps Mania.

If you see any other good google map hacks, particularly Australian ones, please post them.
