Google Base arrives, how is Australia effected?

Posted on Thursday 17 November 2005

It was originally discussed in google base is on the way and now it has been released. The Age has some interesting non-Australia related information, basically cut and paste from The New York Times. But what does it mean to Australia?
Only time will tell, it seems that a search for anything near to Melbourne just indicates that Google Maps still isnt really sure exactly where Melbourne is. The Australian online classifieds market (www.seek.com.au, www.carsales.com.au and www.realestate.com.au to name a few) doesnt have anything to worry about initially. However, Im sure that eventually someone will remember that Australia exists and bother to spend the afternoon importing Australian maps (ok, that may be a slight estimation, but im sure you get my meaning).
At least one melbournite has decided that he wants to have a go on Google Base - check out Craig Overend’s Friendly Australian Female Wanted ad. The first of many similar ads im sure.
